Can Google close phone applications remotely

Some time ago Apple company was criticize for opportunity to control iPhone software remotely. They said that this function was included to reduce injurious actions of some applications which were downloaded on AppStore. The tactics of Big Brother also looks attractive for Google. According to use rules of Android Market which is AppStore analogue the opportunity to close harmful applications remotely is provided.
Computerworld.com tries to acquit Google and says that company declared such function of it’s own free will whereas Apple was red-handed. Secondly Google owners are going to give back money for each broken application.
