Nokia is gong to use 2D graphic accelerators in its mobile devices. At last they realized that Symbian operating system is out-of-date. Lee Williams who is head of SVP R&D and S60 Software Nokia departments said noticed that Symbian runs rather slower than competitive operating systems. Also according to his words Symbian doesn’t need radical changes and there is another way to increase performance. Inability of Symbian OS to compete in performance with Windows Mobile and Linux was revealed by Futuremark as a result of testing of three operating systems. Futuremark’s specialists noticed that devices which run on Symbian take the lead over rivals in 3D mode but they are rather slower in 2D mode.
To solve this problem Nokia is going to use 2D graphic and MP3 encoding hardware accelerators.

Mio Technology company introduced new Mio Leap K1 mobile device on Computex 2008. The main feature of this mobile phone is two screens. From one side it looks like usual phone but from another side it has appearance of GPS navigator. Thus it has no back side) This device runs on WinCE .Net operating system with special program shell which provides access to both phone and navigator functions.

Korean company Pantech introduced new mobile device which is designed in “e2e” style. Pantech IM-R300 has big touch screen which cover almost all front surface of mobile phone. Its size is 102×51x13.9 mm and weight is 111 gr. Besides Pantech IM-R300 supports third generation networks, has 2.6 inch touch screen with 400×240 px resolution (WQVGA), 2 Mp camera, 250 Mb memory with microSD support, TV-tuner, GPS and eWallet support.

The last Motorola triumph was RAZR mobile phone but company didn’t manage to repeat it. The share of the market is constantly decreasing. Today Motorola is going to unit with Kodak and to produce MOTOZINE ZN5. Its technical features:

One of participants of Product Design Forums revealed Nokia ShapeShifting mobile phone concept. The main feature of this device is opportunity to form prominent buttons on the surface of touch screen which diagonal is 4 inches. The screen of ShapeShifting is made of two layers the first layer is firm and the second layer is plastic. There is special liquid which forms prominent objects between them.
